RNF app powers award-winning new marine innovation

Sail Sense, the RNF app-driven sail monitoring and management tool created by SpinLock, has won a DAME Award for marine electronics at the METSTRADE show in Amsterdam beating off 16 other nominees. The DAME Awards are the most significant marine equipment competition of its kind, anywhere in the world. They are judged by a panel of top naval architects, boat, interior and industrial designers, plus user experts and winners are considered to be at the pinnacle of design practice in the industry.

Sail-Sense is a multifunctional light weight sensor that enables yacht owners and captains to monitor use of their sails via the RNF built app. It measures UV exposure, hours of use, g-force and flogging and the app delivers the important analytical and performance data. The project which has been backed by Innovate UK was recognised by the DAME Awards jury as being ‘a significant, well-designed development that will assist owners and captains on yachts of all sizes in the future. It is a very strong category winner among all DAME entries this year’.

Rob Mannion RNF managing director said, “This has been a fantastic project to be involved in and has further expanded RNF’s credentials with Bluetooth technology from retail to asset management and live telemetrics. It’s great that Sail Sense has received such prestigious recognition and we’re really proud of the part we’ve played.”
